British Summer Time is a festival of music, arts and culture held at the prestigious Hyde Park, London. I worked with AEG Live and Loudsound to bring this live event series from concept to reality. In 2012 we were successful in our bid to host the series for three years, 2013-1016. One of the unique selling points in our pitch was a complete reinvention and ultimately, elevation, of the guest experience.
Some of the guest experience innovations that we implemented for the festival include ticketless entry via RFID integrated wristbands, cashless payments via RFID and NFC, social and digital integration through RFID, an interactive mobile application for iOS and Android and back end crowd management, monitoring and live data aggregation via RFID and IR.
On the guest services side, we raised the bar to a premium level across the board - even at the lowest ticket price point. Highly curated food and beverage experiences were spread throughout the site. From the Farmer’s Market to Bocca Di Lupo, the fine dining Italian restaurant. Premium rest room facilities, increased customer service staff and exclusive grandstand viewing locations were some of the additional value adds.
On the creative side, the photos speak for themselves but notable mentions go to the Great Oak Stage and the geographic creative zones, each of which came with its own dedicated themed venues and creative installations. From Havana to the Piazza, a cross section of the world’s culture was represented through art.
A small army of people came together to make this great festival happen. I worked particularly closely with several teams which I want to give a shout out to here. Without their depth of expertise and willingness to go above and beyond the 'normal production model', BST would not be the success it is today.
